St. Brigid’s Day

4th Feb 2025

In 3rd class, we had a great day learning all about St. Brigid and making St. Brigid’s crosses. Making a Saint Brigid´s day cross out of rushes is an ancient tradition in Ireland. Traditionally, a St Brigid's cross was hung over the front door to protect a home from danger symbolising Faith, Hope, and Protection.

The skill of making St. Brigid’s Day crosses involves using rushes to make a square shape with arms extending from each corner. The process of weaving was a great skill to develop in class.

We enjoyed making our crosses and sharing them with the grandparents who visited our class for Grandparent’s Day.

We also learned about St. Brigid's Cloak and completed a fabulous collaborative art piece.
