Green schools

23rd Sep 2025

Since our theme this year for our Green Flag is Food and Biodiversity, 1st class began preparing the soil for the winter and harvesting some crops.

We also collected material for the school Bug Hotel that our STEM reps will make. Our 5th/6th class buddies were a great help and we collected everything from conkers to leaves and tree bark. We noted plant and tress locally as well as projects the local tidy towns had completed. Back at school we created our own mini bug hotels.

16th June- Today we celebrated getting out 10th green flag for Food and Biodiversity. As part of this we continued to litter pick, save energy and water as well as learn about important sea creatures.

We planted potatoes and lettuce as well as the wild flowers for the butterflies and bees. The lettuce grew in lots of different places and tried to take over!

We planted sunflowers and Rosie gave one to Muriel which is really tall in her office! We also had to water our plants everyday and sometimes we watered ourselves by accident.

Ms McCabe's class learned that carrots need space to grow so they are a bit small as they were too close together. Ms Duffy's broccoli is feeding lots of hungry caterpillars. They are growing big fast!

Well done to everyone on their hard work. Lots of children love to visit our garden and see the wildflowers and the caterpillars. We are a great Green School!
