5th Class projects on Simple Machines

18th Oct 2025
The children in Ms Garrigan's 5th class learned about 6 simple machines that can make our lives easier: The lever, pulley, wheel and axle, incline plane, wedge and the screw. The class learned about how each machine works and then in groups discussed how these can been seen in use every day. In their groups they talked about what they could create to demonstrate how their assigned machine works. We also looked at how we could apply maths to each of the machines be it through lines and angles or various measurement types. The children then worked together to create these projects both in school and at home (thank you for any help provided there!) and produced posters on their work. The children did a fantastic job and all their hard work was on display in the hall for STEM week. Well done girls and boys!
